Trends come and go, and sometimes old trends simply repeat themselves. I can say the only thing that doesn’t change is etiquette. This might be an old trend from the day of Emily Post but this one shouldn’t ever die out.
I recently had a group discussion about “Thank You” cards and this is a trend that has lost its finesse over the years. Yes, you can still purchase them within your local drug store or online but do you keep them in stock at home or the office?
The real talk was about how you feel when you open your mailbox and see an envelope that is only 3” X 5” in size and you know it’s a “Thank you” card. You are captured by the rush of opening the card to read the simple words of “Thank You”. It gives you a warm feeling of appreciation that the person took the time to say this to you.
The penmanship on the card is a true gesture (not a text) of gratitude and it’s personal. Take the time to say what the person gave you don’t be generic in saying just “thank you”.
After receiving a wedding present it is undoubtedly a priority to make sure to mail out your “Thank You” cards.
I do recommend purchasing the cards in advance and as you receive wedding presents at home before the wedding, write out the card. Be sure to mail the card within 2 weeks so the person knows you received the gift. As for presents that you received on the wedding day the cards can be mailed out within a three-month timeline, if you can do it sooner the better.
We all like to be recognized for what we gave the person so be sure to reciprocate the same gesture.
