Felicia Events: Tell us a little bit about Art In Bloom Floral. How did you get started?
Hattie Reed: During the 10 years I spent working in a retail flower shop, I [developed] a strong passion for designing [floral arrangements] with brides for their special day. Art in Bloom was inspired by a dream to specialize in weddings and events, offering full amenities to local and destination clients who are seeking a level of service [that goes] above and beyond.

FE: What can brides expect when they choose to work with you for their wedding floral?
HR: At Art in Bloom, we work closely with our brides to create the exact floral design they are looking for. We have extremely high standards [for] flower quality, which is why we handpick our flowers at the San Francisco Flower Market.
FE: What are some ways brides can incorporate florals into their wedding decor?
HR: Bridal bouquets are the most memorable of all the florals at a wedding and most seen in the photographs so they need to steal the show. The ceremony location must offer breathtaking views and a backdrop to capture the altar, whether indoors, on the shores of Lake Tahoe or mountainside, flowers can most often enhance the site to frame the couple during their I do’s. Centerpieces can be elaborate or simple, but never skip having fresh florals on the tables.
FE: What advice do you have for brides on a budget?
HR: I believe the budget should be established before the guest list. Centerpieces are a large portion of the overall flower budget, [so] let your florist offer simple design options.
FE: Flowers and other floral are seasonal. How do you work around those seasonalities to meet a bride's requests?
HR: We establish an overall look and feel of the design, mostly based on colors, texture, and form. Focusing on these elements allows us to shop for the best flowers each season has to offer to meet our goals. Each season has such an array of beautiful flowers to make any wedding stunning. That’s what we promise, not peonies in August!
FE: With summer upon us, what are the trends you're seeing for the season?
HR: Soft romantic shades of blush, peach, and coral with pops of vivid color, natural textures from soft foliage all in free form non-structured designs.
