Felicia Events sat down with Bianca Sciotto Photography to talk about weddings and photography, and just how important a good wedding photographer is.
Felicia Events: Tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got started in photography. How did you come to be a wedding photographer?
Bianca Sciotto: I have been drawn to artistic outlets for as long as I can remember. Painting, pottery, creative writing, it didn’t matter the avenue as long as I could create. In high school my dad gifted me his Nikon FE 1 and I was hooked. I took every photography class my school offered and fell in love with the dark room and tangible process of developing a photograph.
I set my camera down for a few years, while college allowed me the chance to pursue other interests. It was once I graduated from college that I picked my camera back up and began to dive back in.
I never sought to shoot weddings, rather they found me. After I shot my first wedding, I began to get more and more inquiries. I dug the process and ability to capture unique love stories and I’ve been been shooting them ever since.
Felicia Events: You capture moments and details people probably don't think of. How do you go about looking for those things?
Bianca Sciotto: I don’t actually look for those moments, they just present themselves to me. I surrender myself to the experience and the unique feeling that each day and couple bring to their wedding. I approach each wedding differently, as no two couples or wedding days are the same. I diligently seek the non-traditional, the unique moments that allow my couples to look back and not just see the moments from that day, but allow them to really feel them all over again.
Felicia Events: What are your top three suggestions for couples looking for a wedding photographer?
Bianca Sciotto: The very best advice I can give to couples searching for a wedding photographer is to connect and get a feel for who the photographer is as a person. The most important thing when choosing a wedding photographer is trust. It’s imperative you believe in their vision and love their specific approach. Look through their portfolio and become versed in how they shoot as a whole, not just weddings. Find someone whose aesthetic and shooting style resonates with you. At the end of the day, your photos will be the only thing from your wedding day that will last forever, remember that.
Felicia Events: What are some of your favorite moments to capture at weddings?
Bianca Sciotto: I really enjoy the moments before the ceremony. There is so much excitement and love emanating from both the bride and groom as they prepare for this monumental moment in their lives. I also love to document the candid snippets of time that the bride and groom likely aren’t able to be a part of throughout the day. It gives me so much joy that they will be able to look through their photos and see images from moments they weren’t even aware were taking place.
Felicia Events: You’ve shot a lot of weddings. What's the craziest thing that's ever happened to you during a shoot?
Bianca Sciotto: I’ve seen lots of wacky things go down over the years, but this past year I got to be a part of something that was pretty crazy awesome… if that counts. I was given the opportunity to shoot the very first same sex couple wedding in Washoe County. It was such an incredible experience to document such a defining moment in history and a wedding that I will never forget. I believe strongly in equality for all and was honored to have been asked to capture this special occasion.
Felicia Events: If you could shoot a wedding anywhere in the world, where would you choose and why?
Bianca Sciotto: Any National Park. There is so much natural beauty in this world, I would simply love to capture some I dos in one of earth’s most beautiful landscapes. I’m incredibly connected to nature and combining my love for the wilderness with the special joining of souls would just be a dream.
Felicia Events: How can couples contact you if they're interested in booking you for their wedding?
Bianca Sciotto: Email is the easiest and most efficient method of contact for me, hello@biancasciotto.com Drop me a line, I would love to connect!
Felicia Events: Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Bianca Sciotto: I am so thrilled to be back in the Reno/Tahoe area and would be honored to document your special day. I have a genuine interest in the life you live and would love to get to know about your wants, wishes, and desires for your upcoming wedding day!
