Felicia Events sat down with Brian Hess Music to chat about music in keeping the wedding or event shaking on the dance floor!
Felicia Events: Tell us a little bit about Brian Hess Music.
Brian Hess: Brian Hess Music is run by one person, me, Brian Hess. However, it includes a whole host of the best musicians in the Tahoe/Truckee/Reno area. We focus on providing the very best in live music and DJ services, always catering each event to the client's style.
Felicia Events:What made you decide to get into the music industry?
Brian Hess: I have been playing live music all my life. It brings me such joy and I love how it (music) supplies the atmosphere and the mood of an event. I like being the one who supplies the vibe, and when I see a packed dance floor, it just feels incredible.
Felicia Events: What are some of the most common mistakes people make when deciding on music for their wedding?
Brian Hess: Not conveying your own personal style. Be specific and give specific examples of songs. If the client isn't very particular, ask their friends and family what kind of music they would like.
Felicia Events: What advice do you have for a couple choosing music for their wedding?
Brian Hess: Choose and musician or DJ that you get along with and can hang out with. This person is going to create a party for you! Make sure it's the type of person that you can relate to.
Felicia Events: What can a DJ do that a live band can't (and what can a live band do that a DJ can't)?
Brian Hess: DJs can play any style at any time, but live bands can create a vibe and energy like none other. Both are great, but for different situations. That's why I love what I do, because I am able to provide the best of both worlds, and cater the music specifically to the client.
Felicia Events: How far in advance should a couple decide what sort of music they want at their wedding?
Brian Hess: I would start thinking about it as soon as you book your wedding date. I use Shazam on my phone, which identifies the song and artist. I use it all the time- at coffeeshops, restaurants, public places, and at home, to keep track of songs I like. I then go back through the list, listen again and download them.
Felicia Events: Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Brain Hess: Tahoe is an amazing place to get married not only for it's stunning scenery, but for the professionals who live here. I feel so fortunate to work with all the other talented vendors in this area, from planners and caterers, to photographers, videographers, and florists.
